John Cleese - a lecture on Creativity from janalleman on Vimeo.

How to be More Creative

“How many socialist does it take to change a lightbulb? We’re not going to change it. We think it works.”

Creativity is a bit like of an elephant. You start with large block of something and you chip away all the parts that don’t look like a creative elephant. Or something like that…

Creativity, as describe by Cleese as described by McKinnon, is a way operating. It is habitual. It requires diligence and persistence. Two people of same intelligence, lifestyle and mindset can have different levels of creativity, but the one who gives more room and time for creativity to happen becomes the most creative.

A few characteristics of creative people:

  • Playful
  • Open to humor
  • Relaxed
  • Less purposeful
  • Curious

Point being, you cannot force creativity. You cannot force it. It requires open mindedness a consistent pursuit of open mindedness. You must be curious, ask questions and be willing to juxtapose reality against your assumptions. Take 30 minutes to watch the above video. It will be the best 30 minutes you spend today – if you’re open to it.
